About the Organisation
We are a special school for 3-19 years old. All our students have or would find it difficult to work within mainstream schools due to significant and complex learning difficulties. We provide education that is broadly based on the National Curriculum and is tailored to meet individual needs. We have two specialist resource bases, one for autism and severe communication difficulties, the other for severe and profound multiple learning difficulties. We have hostel provision for up to 14 students.

How do you aim to meet the unique needs of the child?
The school admits young people with severe or complex learning difficulties. Pupils may have communication difficulties that limit access to the curriculum in a mainstream environment. Sensory impairment, physical disability or emotional and behavioural difficulties may compound difficulties in some instances but will not be the primary area of need.
In addition there is residential provision (Fosse Way House) for up to 11 pupils who have a diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Disorders or Asperger Syndrome. These pupils receive a management/education programme extending beyond the school day implemented by the Residential Education Team. This provision is designed to offer an extended curriculum within a structured and consistent environment.
All students at Fosse Way School will have a personal tutor who will work closely with the young people and the professionals listed above to ensure that each student has an appropriate and supportive programme of education across the Key Stages.
How do you promote positive relationships and ensure good, ongoing communication with families?
In addition to personal 1:1 contact between parents and staff at school; parents’ evenings; open evenings and information sessions the school liaises with parents regularly in the following ways:
- An annual review
- Tutors will meet with parents three times each year
- Tutors will set progress meeting dates
- Tutors/Parents are sent a list of invitees with option of including others they would like to attend. Tutors/parents will need to advise office team to send an invite
