About the Organisation
SWALLOW is a registered charity providing support to people with learning disabilities in the Bath and North East Somerset area. The help we provide includes supported housing, education and training and a programme of social events.
We are always keen to welcome new members to join SWALLOW and take advantage of the things that they do. The classes that we run include Art Therapy, Drama, Cookery and Fit for Life, encouraging their members to get fit and healthy while having fun. Through our Work Skills Enterprise Scheme we also give our members the skills and experience they need for work.
At Base House, SWALLOW’s training house, people with learning disabilities both in the 16-18 age group and in the 18+ age group are able to come to stay overnight, away from parents and carers, and learn independent living skills in a fully supported environment.
We support people to live independently in the community both in their own homes and in a supported housing unit. We are very proud of our supported housing in Redfield Road, and our new housing project The Hawthorns, both in Midsomer Norton, are a model of best practice.
We are a user-led organisation with eleven members on our management committee which meets every four weeks to plan activities and to inform the Trustee Board of members’ wishes and needs. We are linked into the local special schools and colleges.
SWALLOW’s Fun Club organizes a social event each month including bowling, summer picnics and barbecues as well as quiz nights and parties at Hallowe'en, Christmas and Valentine’s Day. Our centre provides a safe and friendly environment where members can enjoy meeting friends and having fun.
