About the Organisation

The Wellow Group of the Riding for the Disabled Association, which enables people with disabilities to achieve their dreams of riding a horse, has been based at Wellow Trekking Centre for over 20 years.

The Group offers facilities for disabled riders and their parents or carers. Highly trained staff and volunteers are on hand to help riders and carers to ensure that their horse riding experience is a safe and fulfilling one.

Disabled riders can gain a great deal of satisfaction and sense of achievement from horse riding as well as skills and experience that benefit the individual when not riding.

Knowledge is not as important as enthusiasm. Training will be given and there is always a friendly face to help and guide you. Feedback is encouraged.

Who can use your service?

We hold sessions in term time on Monday to Friday (except Wednesday), catering for approximately 200 riders each week with ages ranging from 3 to 80 years. Sessions consist of small groups of 4 to 6 riders with helpers leading the horses and/or acting as side helpers. Riding activities include exercises, playing games, having races (usually at the walk!), hacking along a disused railway line and preparing for competitions.
